University of Science and Technology of China

The University of Science and Technology of China was established in 1974. The name of the institution was changed from the University of Technology. Later on it was changed into the University of Engineering and Medical University of China. The main campus of the university is located in Shanghai. It has six departments namely; Biological and Transplantation Institute, School of Pharmaceutical and Food Chemistry, Institute of Chemical and Biochemical Medicine, Hong Kong University of Chinese Medicine, Shanghai Academy of General Medical University and the School of Nursing.

The main goal of this university is to combine advanced technologies with traditional methods of research and education. It aims to maintain high standards in the field of research and education, maintain international faculty researchers, expand the pool of professionals in the fields of nanotechnology, biotechnology, materials science, genetics and other related fields. It also strives to maintain high quality of research outputs and outdo the achievements of its nearest competitors. In addition, the university of science and technology of China also provides excellent international academic research collaborations with various eminent universities of foreign countries. Thus we can say that USTC has become one of the leading research centres of the world.

The University of Science and Technology of China has lots of branches including biochemistry and cell and tissue culture technologies, enzyme reactions, protein interaction, genetics, pharmacology, biochemical analysis, physics, astronomy, nuclear medicine and others. All the above mentioned branches have an immense contribution towards the field of medical science. The major contributions have been made by the faculties of the university of science and technology of China. All these have made the university a great attraction for the researchers, students from all over the world.

At present, there are lots of international cooperation activities going on between the colleges of USTC and different university and colleges of other countries. All the international collaborative effort is mainly to enhance the quality of research output of USTC towards China. The main motive behind such cooperative efforts is to enhance the status of international reputation of the University of Science and Technology of China. As a result, this university is also taking vital initiatives to enhance the level of education, research work and the advancements in technology of national key university.

There are several other important factors for the success of USTC. First of all, the teaching system and environment of USTC are excellent. The teaching staff and the students are highly professional and qualified. Second, the facilities available in the classrooms and laboratories of USTC are world-class. Third, the number of academic and non-academic staff and students are also world-class.

The major thrust of USTC is on education and research. It has developed the complete standard of Chinese university in terms of facilities and services to provide to the students. There are more than 200 fully-equipped study rooms, hundreds of classrooms and more than 100 libraries in the four branches of USTC namely, Departments of Civil and Material Science, Economics and Business; and Chinese Institute of Technology. The four branches of USTC have numerous world class research laboratories as well. These research laboratories are located at Xining, Xunlong, Kaifeng, and Xintang.

The major activities carried out by the university consist of research in almost all the topics of modern science and technology. In recent years, the University of Science and Technology of China has made major contributions to the field of particle physics. It has built six research facilities for solid-state electronics, quantum superconductors, nuclear medicine, applied physics, and energy. It has also made major contributions in many fields such as chemistry, biology, materials science, computer science, electrical engineering, electronics, optical microscopy, and photonics.

The University of Science and Technology of China has attracted thousands of foreign students to its doors. The number of foreign students has increased manifolds over the past few years and this figure is expected to keep increasing as the quality of education offered by this university is also improving. There are more than 300 associate professors in this university. These associate professors hold senior positions in the faculty of medicine, education, physics and chemistry at the university. The number of full-time faculty is 15 thousand.
